A Brief History
In January 1981, an informal meeting was
held in Morgantown, West Virginia. Slides
and movies of hang gliding were shown. The
small group discussed the merits of forming
a club, but typical of early efforts to
organize, nothing was done. Then in February
of 1982, there was a flurry of two meetings
with about five people present and, lo—a
club was born. By the end of the year there
were 12 Mountaineers. Today, the
Mountaineers remain a small-but-dedicated
group of pilots with controlled access to
some great flying sites. We also share
flying sites with the
Capital Hang Gliding & Paragliding Club
(CHGPA) from the Greater Washington,
D.C. area. |
